a dream on it’s way to becoming reality

The first radio station that I remember listening to as a kid was KIST-AM radio in Santa Barbara, California. In the 1970’s they played Top 40 music. There was also “The Mighty 690” that was also a Top 40 format broadcasting out of Tijuana, Mexico. Many FM stations were soon to follow. And I followed many. Y-97, Q105, KIIS-FM, KLOS, KMET, KTYD, and on and on. But something bugged me about the radio stations. They played the same thing over and over. I would have to change stations often so that I wouldn’t have to hear the same stuff every couple of hours. The same thing happens today – even with satellite radio. It’s so irritating.

I remember saying how cool it would be to have my own radio station. I could play any song I wanted. There wouldn’t be a format. There would be albums from artists that spanned many, many genres. And I would play any song from the album. Not just the singles that got released. Musical nirvana.

These days, the sandy beaches of southern California are many miles away. But the dream of that young girl is right here. There may not be an actual radio station yet, but with the technology of today, this dream is on it’s way to becoming reality.

Join me! Here I will share music of all kinds. We’ll tell stories “by the fire” and enjoy each other’s company.
